  • Overview

    The Los Angeles Times is looking to hire at least eight editors to join our growing audience engagement and social media team.

    We're searching for journalists who are passionate about rebuilding this vital institution by helping our journalism reach its largest possible audience — not only in California and the West, but around the nation and world.  You will be part of the digital transformation of our newsroom and a reorientation of The Times around our most important mission: Serving our readers.

    Responsibilities

    If you join us, you will:

    • Be part of a dynamic, energetic, inclusive and inspiring team of journalists, who cover every topic from the White House to climate change, from Hollywood to the Dodgers;
    • Work across platforms — including Facebook, Twitter, Apple News, Microsoft News, Pocket, Flipboard, SmartNews, Reddit, Google News, YouTube, chat apps and newsletters — to help our audience discover and engage with our content;
    • Collaborate with data analysts to understand our audience and its needs, and with product developers, interactive news designers, and UX designers working to improve the digital experience of The Times;
    • Help set a coverage agenda that aims to inspire, illuminate and inform readers in America’s most populous and influential state;
    • Interact and engage with our readers.

    Qualifications

    • Passion about the news and its role in serving our democracy;
    • Optimism about the changes sweeping through the news industry;
    • Versatility in working across words, images, video and even code;
    • An ethical and inclusive approach in the workplace;
    • At least two years of experience managing social media platforms for a news organization or media brand;
    • A nuanced understanding of audience data and analytics and a track record of using data to make decisions.

    These positions are classified as Multiplatform Editors — Audience within the Los Angeles Times Guild and are based in our El Segundo, Calif., newsroom. Occasional night and weekend work is required.

    Please apply to Samantha Melbourneweaver, director of audience engagement, and Sewell Chan, deputy managing editor for news, at editjobs@latimes.com

    These positions are also available externally on LinkedIn and the Inside Track and LAT/SDUT portals
