    Analytics Developer - Architecture and Tagging

     

    The Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union Tribune are looking for an analytics architecture and tagging expert to join the team in either our LA or SD offices.  As part of our data organization you’ll have the chance to work with a modern data team using the latests tools including data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and consumer researchers to help instill a data-first culture into our products, strategic initiatives, and business operations.

     

    The Data Platforms team at the Los Angeles Times is responsible for data collection and instrumentation across all our digital products as well as being experts on various data systems and how they work including editorial, web analytics, subscriptions, and advertising. This position will own the design and architecture of all digital asset tagging, analytics collection and first party data. This position will interface directly with engineering, analytics, project and product teams to continue to build our data infrastructure and support the needs of evergreen data ambitions.

    Responsibilities

    • Document data collection standards, implementations site functionality for all digital analytics and first party collection
    • Implement advanced digital Analytics tracking to achieve a greater understanding of customer behavior; working with in-house development teams and third party platform service providers
    • Develop and modify JavaScript code via tag management solutions, and formulate, document and complete test cases as needed and help with UAT (user acceptance testing), and perform QA (quality assurance) of web sites, mobile, tablet and analytics standards
    • Track, measure both internal and external promotions and ecommerce utilizing omni channel attribution
    • Ensure the information we collect follows rules such as third party Terms of Use, PII collection, and GDPR
    • Evaluate current software and technologies and recommend the best tools to meet the needs of the business
    • Coordinate with developers and product management to ensure accurate and comprehensive web analytics implementation and successful deployment of new solutions

    Qualifications

    Desired Skills and Experience

    • 3+ years experience working in data analytics, tag management and first party data collection.
    • Bachelor Degree
    • Proficient in e-commerce conversion and marketing attribution
    • Experience with digital advertising pixels and a understanding of IAB standards
    • Certification or expertise with Google Tag Manager (GTM) or Ensighten Manage
    • Certification or expertise with Google Analytics / Adobe Omniture
    • Some experience with digital content management systems
    • Proficient in javaScript, JQuery and AJAX

     

    Nice to haves

    • Experience with at least one modern data warehouse platform (Redshift, Snowflake, Hive, Athena, etc.)
    • An understanding of SEO tagging best practices
    • An understanding of IAB standards and best practices
    • Experience with ad servers such as Google DFP / Google Marketing Platform
    • Experience with business intelligence and data visualizations tools such as Tableau, Looker, Domo, QlikView or similar
